If you’re going to offer a contest on your website, social networks, or blog – make sure you consider a few things first.
– Who is your audience?
– What is your product or service (can this be used as a giveaway?)
– What is your budget?
– What do you expect to gain from this contest?
Who is your audience?
What does your audience like, need, and what will they respond to. Consider age, location, lifestyle, and other important demographic factors.
What is your product or service (can this be used as a giveaway?)
If your service or product is not up for giveaway, then find something related and complimentary.
Example: A realtor won’t be giving away a house, fee reduction, and consultations are usually complimentary anyway. A good idea for a realtor is to maybe raffle a gift card to a local restaurant. Small business with a great social media presence. So they can announce and benefit from the contest as well.
What is your budget?
What do you expect to gain from this contest?
These two go together. Make sure you consider what you plan to gain from your contest so you can set your budget based on how much you’re willing to spend on the prize.
Lastly, make sure to cross I’s and dot T’s. Use an online contest tool.
NOW, to showcase a company who nailed their online contest Cbeyond.com! During the #move2cloud Twitter party they had a giveaway of a Samsung Tab 2. I met some great tweets during the party, learned more about cloud AND I won the tablet.
Thanks CBeyond Team! Be sure to follow them on Twitter @cbeyond.
Not everyone is going to giveaway a tablet or you might! Just keep in mind all the major factors.
